Welcome to the inaugural edition of the Newsletter.

Each month, I’ll update you on new additions to the Gray Haired OBGYN website.

You’ll have links to the new material, and a brief description of it, so you’ll know in advance whether it will hold your interest (or not).

Lectures

ELearning discusses the science of how students best learn off screens. Understanding the science allows us to better frame our lectures, whether given in person or in electronic format.

Audio Tips #1 goes into some very practical aspects of creating high-quality audio channels for your students.

Video Tips #1 discusses some of the best ways of creating high-quality, high-impact medical education videos.

Podcasts explains some the technical aspects of creating of these useful audio sessions that your students can listen to 24/7.

Simulation

Simulation explores the variety of uses for this discipline, emphasizing the areas where simulation stands out.

The Simulated Clinic discusses the importance of this method of simulation in engaging the student in clinical decision-making, allowing the student to make mistakes (safely), and providing additional clinical material the student might not otherwise encounter.

Electronic Fetal Monitoring was designed for use in the Skills Lab, and includes a brief video lecture, powerpoint slides for classroom discussion/participation, and the strategy for quickly and efficiently training students in this discipline.

Web

Web Design introduces the medical professional to the web design tools that are available, their advantages in certain settings, and their use in medical and nursing education settings.

Evaluation

Status Checks are brief (less than 5 minutes) tests of a student’s knowledge on a particular skill or topic. They are taken immediately following the training, are self-scored (the answers are on the back), and are designed to provide immediate feedback to the student of their learning of the material.
