Dr. Hughey, The Gray Haired OBGYN, received his AB in biochemistry from Princeton University in 1970 and his MD from Loyola University Medical School in 1974. He completed his residency in OB-GYN in 1978 at Northwestern University, and joined the Medical School Faculty.

For over 30 years, he has been in general OBGYN clinical practice and actively engaged in teaching medical school undergraduates, residents, post-graduates, and students in related health professions. His current clinical privileges are as a Senior Attending Physician, NorthShore University Hospital, Evanston, IL.

Dr. Hughey spent 14 years in the U.S. Navy Reserve, rising to the rank of Captain in the Medical Corps. His primary focus with the Navy was in education and training of professionals providing women’s healthcare in isolated settings, and operational medicine. For his work, he received two Meritorious Service medals, and the Navy Commendation Medal.

He is currently an Associate Professor of Clinical Obstetrics and Gynecology at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago, and an Adjunct Associate Professor of Obstetrics & Gynecology, Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, F. Edward Hebert School of Medicine, Bethesda Maryland. He holds an appointment of Senior Clinician Educator at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine.

Dr. Hughey is the author of 18 peer-reviewed research papers, 7 books, and 7 textbook chapters.

He also has reported his experiences as The Reluctant Forester, and has posted his Uncle Tom Cartmell’s WWII wartime experiences in A Young Man Went Off to War – 2LT Thomas E. Cartmell, USAAF.

His current focus is on medical training through computer-based resources. Toward this end, his company, the Brookside Associates, produces electronic textbooks, videos, and other educational resources in support of professional training.
